Kaituna track ( or Mussel inn to Collingwood by foot via the coast) on Sat. Sunset on the West Coast at the Accom and then jump on Your Kayak, paddle board, packraft etc(BYO) and explore The tidal rivers of Whanganui Inlet or Lake Otuhie, before cruising back to Nelson. Nydia Epic describes the day.. not just the ride!!
Gudday Folks still got a few seats left on the Nydia track Epic. And as a wee yarn for those who associate “Epic” with the full heavy duty cycle on a washing machine. Please read on…
We’ve got a couple a people signed up for the “Epic” who have cunningly crafted another route option into the day which allow them to swim and eat icecream at Okiwi bay.
Ride the Goat hill track, down to Okiwi bay, skip the Archers track to lounge at Okiwi Bay, then get dropped off at the Opouri saddle a good 1 hour headstart before the other riders come through. All in all a brilliant day out that allows you to taste both the Icecream and the Nydia track in a relaxed style…. flexible adventuring at its prime with Scottish Express.
Kayak and Hike Golden Bay 12th/13th Feb $70pp
Mixing it up with another ecletic adventure Weekend walking the Kaituna track and paddling the coastal tidal rivers and lakes on the west coast of Golden Bay. I’ve got the kayak trailer thanks to Chris West at Kayak HQ. How does it work….grab a kayak suitable for estuary paddling, polish up your tramping boots, dust off your tent and book yourself and a friend a seat. If you are not a kayaker theres also plenty of walking adventure option on the coast too. If you haven’t dicovered this great destination in Golden Bay then nows your chance. Check out the booking page for more details.
Adventurous Weather on the Maungatapu
Great day out despite the feroicious weather on Saturday. Dropped off a few hardy souls at Pelorus for circuits around the incredible forest around the Cafe, and dropped two even hardier souls at the Maungatapu Saddle for a hike via dew lakes to the Matai valley. Did a bit of repair work diverting water on the road heading down… all in all a great day out.

Just a wee yarn about the Wairoa Gorge
Summer is on the way. And I just want to give everyone a gentle reminder about awesome things to do and why you should do them. The Gorge Bike park is located on a public recreational reserve and without the support of the Nelson mountainbike club and the greater NZ mountain bike community it simply would not exist. I just spent 2 great Weekends up the Wairoa Gorge. The first was dropping off an amazing crew from the North Island up the for a grand day of shuttling, the second was a smoking hot mountain bike festival aptly named Weekend at Kens( after the former billionaire owner), which poured some much needed cash back into the Gorge. Good on ya Nick Crocker for organising.
Get behind it this summer, its a great place to be and support , and it needs your tyres!!!
