Description
Sharland Bush Conservation Covenant
Tucked away in the Hira Forest, the Sharland Bush Conservation Covenant is a walking paradise. This beautiful protected area features a network of multi-use tracks maintained for public enjoyment, with native bush, ridge views, and options to suit a range of walking abilities.
What to Expect
Walking tracks for people comfortable with mild technical bush walking. Expect uneven natural surfaces, some steeper sections, and up to 300 metres of elevation change.
Recommended Routes
Easy: Walk down Matai Track, then return uphill via Rimu Track. Enjoy lunch at the top lookout.
Moderate: Walk down Matai or Rimu Track, traverse across to Supplejack Track, then walk back up Supplejack Track. Enjoy lunch at the top lookout.
Hard: Walk down Matai or Rimu Track, climb Supplejack Track, then traverse the ridge via the gravel road. Descend Kaka Road and return to your vehicle via the new access track in the bottom valley. Because Sharlands Road is closed for logging, all walkers must exit via Kaka Road and the bottom-valley access track to the car park.

Multiuse Trails
The trails in the Sharland Bush Covenant are designated as Multi use trails, they work well for both walking and mountainbiking. Rimu are Matai trails are recommended for multi direction walking, and we recommend Supplejack be used as an uphill trail as it works best as a multi use trail in this direction.
