Heli biking at its finest: The Old Ghost road is a spectacular track to ride but some people struggle with the advanced grade of the entire track. However the 27km descent from Ghost lake hut to Lyell is a lot milder than many other sections of the track and can be easily ridden by most intermediate riders. Off the back off another custom transport booking we’re able to offer a fully inclusive transport package from Nelson to experience this stunning section of the old ghost road.
The package for up to 5 people includes
- Return Transport to Lyell from Nelson
- Helicopter flights from Lyell to Ghost lake hut

Approx.
- Depart Nelson 7.30am( stop at Wakefield Bakery included)
- Arrive Murchison helicopters 10am
- Depart Murchison Helicopters 10.15am
- Arrive Lyell 11am, Uplift to Ghost lake Hut
- The descent from Ghost lake hut to Lyell is 27km and gets easier the further you go down. Allow 2-3hrs to descend
- Depart Lyell between 2pm and 4pm. Stop for snacks in Murchison
- Arrive Nelson 4.45 to 6.45pm
