What we recommend
While we specialize in transport services and don’t match riders to shuttles based on skill level, we’re happy to share some useful tips for riding in Nelson. Recently, there has been a major effort to regrade many of Nelson’s mountain bike trails, so you’ll find a lot of them are now riding to grade. However, some of the longer and more remote backcountry trails are harder to maintain, which means the difficulty level can increase in these areas.
If you’re new to Nelson and consider yourself an intermediate rider, but feel a little unsure, we recommend pedaling a few trails on your own to get a feel for the grading. You might also want to consider taking a coaching session with Gravity Nelson to build your confidence and fully enjoy the incredible singletrack that Nelson has to offer.

Helpful information on Mountain Bike Shuttle areas
Nelson, New Zealand, is a world-class mountain biking destination celebrated for its diverse trail networks, breathtaking scenery, and rider-friendly infrastructure. The region’s extensive shuttle services enable riders to maximize their riding time by bypassing challenging climbs and focusing fully on the fun of downhill and flow trails, making Nelson ideal for riders of all levels.
Cable Bay Adventure Park
One of the standout shuttle-supported areas is Cable Bay Adventure Park, located just 15 minutes from Nelson city. Cable Bay offers a rapidly expanding network of hand-built, flowing trails through native forest and pine plantations, catering to a variety of skill levels from beginners to experts. We can provide shuttle services here and provide regular uplift rides to the top of the trails, allowing riders to enjoy multiple downhill laps without the fatigue of climbing. This system effectively turns the park into a playground where riders can focus on speed, technique, and enjoyment, making the investment in shuttling highly worthwhile. Cable Bay also features family-friendly facilities and activities, making it a vibrant destination for mountain bikers and their wider groups alike.

Fringed Hill
Fringed Hill has two 4wd access trails and is another prime shuttle location south of Nelson, known for its excellent technical singletrack running through lush native bush.. Shuttles here allow riders to link multiple downhill runs in one day, greatly increasing the amount of quality riding possible. This means that riders can fully experience Fringed Hill’s diverse terrain—from technical rock sections to smooth berms—without exhausting themselves on uphill pedal sessions. The ability to maximize run counts and vary trail choices makes it a favorite for intermediate and advanced riders looking for a dynamic and rewarding mountain biking experience.

The Best of the Rest
Waitarake Forest/Sharlands, Silvan Mountain Bike Park, and Koata Park/Codgers Mountain Bike Park also form an integral part of Nelson’s shuttle network. Waitarake forest is prized for its steep, technical descents through beautiful native forest, which are best enjoyed when multiple runs can be accessed by shuttle. Silvan offers a well-rounded mix of flowing singletrack and technical trail features, appealing to a broad spectrum of riders, while Koata Park provides an extensive trail network that ranges from novice-friendly loops to expert-level downhill lines. Koata forests location on Nelson’s southern edge makes it easily accessible, and shuttles here empower riders to spend more time on the descents and less on the climbs, significantly enhancing the day’s riding volume and enjoyment.

Nelson’s mountain biking excellence is fueled by a combination of outstanding trail variety and top-notch shuttle services. Cable Bay, Fringed Hill, Waitarake, Silvan, and Koata park all benefit immensely from shuttle access, which increases convenience, and the sheer amount of riding possible.
